Types Of Vape Juice

There are many types of vape juice. This can get confusing but we will make sense of it all. There are different e-liquids for different styles of vaping. This is important because you need to have the right juice for the right vape. For example, you can’t use a PG e-liquid in a sub ohm mod. It will not work! So let’s sport out the types of vape juice and what style of vaping they are made for.

In a nutshell, there are two types of vaping. There is standard vaping with atomizers above 1.0 ohms. And there is sub ohm vaping with atomizers less than 1.0 ohms. Temperature control vaping and dripping also use atomizers less than 1.0 ohms. The way that you inhale vapor depends on the style of vaping.

Standard vaping uses the familiar MTL style, or mouth to lung. That simply means that you inhale the vapor into your mouth first, and then inhale.
Sub ohm, the style is DL or direct lung. That is when you draw the vapor directly from the vape device into the lungs.

The type of vape juice that you use for each style of vaping is very different. Juices with a PG level of 50% or more are used with atomizers above 1.0 ohms. Juices with a VG content of 50% or more are used with atomizers below 1.0 ohms. If you use the wrong types of e-liquids with an atomizer resistance that is not suitable, the vaping will not be enjoyable. With the wrong juice you could get spitback, little to no vapor, and the list goes on. So to really figure this out, we must do a quick pit stop answering a very basic question.

What Is Vape Juice?

We are going to quickly go over what is vape juice. Vape juice is also called e-liquid, e-juice, e-cig juice, or just juice. All of those terms refer to the same thing, the liquid that is converted into vapor by an electronic vapor device. Vape juice is made up of four basic ingredients:

Propylene Glycol (PG) - an additive used in foods, medications, etc
Vegetable Glycerin (VG) - an additive and preservative
Nicotine
Flavoring

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are both food additives that are used in a large number of consumable products. That includes everything from medications to shampoos to toothpaste. The nicotine in vape is typically extracted in a professional lab. Some e-liquid extract nicotine from salts. At Freeman Vape Juice we use the highest purity nicotine.

Vape juice flavors are food grade and it is vital that they are blended into the juice by a professional chemist. It is important to understand all of the flavor ingredients to ensure that there are no impurities in the vapor. The bottom line is that vape juice requires a state of the art lab staffed by professional chemists. It can't be properly made in the back room of a vape shop or a makeshift lab. VG PG Ratio

PG and VG are vape juice ingredients that are used in all almost all e-liquids. PG is a thinner liquid than VG. Here is the difference in a nutshell:

VG is a thicker liquid that does not carry much flavor but makes more vapor and thicker vapor
PG liquid is thinner, does not make as much vapor as VG but it carries more flavor and has more throat hit

The VG PG ratio is the percentage indicating how much VG vs. PG is in a vape juice. For example a 50 / 50 vape juice means that it is made up of 50% VG and 50% PG.

There are five main types of vape juice. Those five are:

70 PG / 30 VG
50 PG / 50 VG
70 VG / 30 PG
80 VG / 20 PG
Max VG

To be clear about the types of vape juice listed above, a max VG liquid will still have some small percentage of PG in order to carry flavor. A Max VG will have about 90% VG.

Different Types Of Vape Juice

Now we will dive into the different types of vape juice and what each type is used for. For example, if a vaper is using the Vandy Vape Revolver RTA then a VG vape juice is required. Someone using a pod system will need a PG e-liquid. We will also highlight which type of vape juice that is the best for both flavor and vapor.

When you buy vape juice, the manufacturer should make clear the VG/PG ratio of their products. At Freeman, all of our juices are 80 VG and 20 PG. Spoiler alert! We have found that 80VG/20PG is the best ratio for both vapor and flavor.

Nicotine Salt E-Liquid

Nicotine salt e-liquid is a type of vape juice that uses nicotine salts as opposed to the nicotine that is customarily extracted from tobacco leaves. Nic salt e-juices are usually 50/50 PG/VG. The idea of a nic salt liquid is that it can deliver more nicotine without being overly harsh. These types of e-liquids are usually used in pod mods. There is a lot of nicotine, but not a lot of vapor.

70 PG / 30 VG E-Liquid

A 70 PG / 30 VG e-liquid is made for standard vaping with an atomizer above 1.0 ohms of resistance. In fact, a 70% PG e-liquid is best for atomizers with a resistance above 1.8 ohms. 70/30 e-liquids will typically use a nicotine content of anywhere from 6 mg to 24 mg.

PG e-liquids have higher nicotine levels because not as much vapor is produced. The throat hit, which is the sensation experienced when inhaling something, is strong and the vapor can be harsh for some people.

50 PG / 50 VG E-Juice

A 50 / 50 e-juice is ideal for atomizers with a resistance ranging from 1,0 ohms to 1.8 ohms. This type of vape juice is a popular choice for people who vape with pod mods. The vapor production is decent as is the flavor. The nicotine levels for 50 / 50 liquids range from 6 mg to 24 mg. Although some pod vapes use even higher nicotine levels.

70 VG / 30 PG Vape Juice

A 70 / 30 VG vape juice is a common choice for sub ohm or temperature control vaping. These types of vape juice work best when the atomizer resistance is between 0.5 ohms and 0.9 ohms. 70/30 will work with lower resistance atomizers but we feel that the ideal is the 0.5 to 0.9 area. The nicotine content ranges from 1.5 mg to 6 mg.

The reason that the nicotine content is so much lower in VG e-liquids is because the amount of vapor produced is substantial. Because the vaper will be inhaling larger quantities of vapor, less nicotine is required to achieve satisfaction. The two most common nicotine levels for VG vape juice are either 3 mg or 6 mg.

80 VG / 20 PG Vape Juice

The 80 VG and 20 PG is the ultimate in terms of types of vape juice. I am saying that with some bias because that is the ratio that we use here at Freeman! For sub ohm vaping, temperature control, dripping, or squonking with the best vape devices an 80/20 hits the sweet spot for both flavor and vapor. There is magnificent vapor production and thanks to our formulation, a pitch perfect flavor profile.

For vapers who vape with atomizer resistances under 1.0 ohms, and especially those who vape at less than 0.5 ohms, the 80/20 blend is ideal.

Hi! I’ve been using your wonderful vape juice for awhile now, but i have a problem. I’ ve switched from sub ohm vaping to a pod system. I finally have gotten down to zero nicotine after 40 years of smoking cigarettes. Do you have a product like nic salts for flavor but no nicotine? I’m missing out on your great flavors in my Eleaf Tance Max.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
