Geekvape Aegis Mini Vape Mod Review

We have got a new Aegis! The Geekvape Aegis mini review is going to dive deep into the nearly indestructible device. This compact mod has military grade ratings for shockproof, waterproof, and dust proof. This mod is perfect for anyone looking for a small mod that can stand up to serious wear and tear. Many vapers work and play in conditions not suitable to delicate, finicky devices. Geekvape has made a mod here that can handle the challenges that life dishes out.

I guess you can tell that this is going to be a positive review! And I admit that based on previous experiences with the original Aegis and the awesome Geekvape Aegis Legend, we had high expectations before even starting the Aegis Mini review. That can cause a bias, for sure. But the other side of that coin is that when you have high expectations, there may be a tendency to be be disappointed by even the most minor faults. Therefore, it is important to base a review on performance during testing. And to be honest with you.

This will be a positive Geekvape Aegis Mini review but we will be straight with you. This device might not be for everyone. It tops out at 80 watts and has a 2200 mAh battery capacity. For example, this device is not for cloud chasers. But, there are a lot of people who will love this device.

The Geekvape Aegis Mini is a fantastic fit for anyone who likes a small mod with a built in battery. You do not need to buy a separate battery or charger. This is a compact mod designed for practical, day to day vaping. Finally, as mentioned earlier, the Aegis Mini is perfect for people who work construction, outdoors, on the go, or any job where you get your hands dirty!

Geekvape Aegis Mini Review

geekvape aegis mini review

We start the Geekvape Aegis Mini review with the bare bones numbers! The Aegis Mini is an 80 watt mod that has a built in 2200 mAh battery. At 2200 mAh is has the same battery capacity as a single 18650 mod. But, it is smaller than most 18650 mods so that is a plus for anyone who likes something small, and portable. The mod is controlled by the AS chip which is known for being very responsive and excellent stability. In fact, the mod fires in 9 milliseconds. That is fast!

The Aegis Mini has a full temperature control suite. Temp control vapers can use Ni200, stainless steel, titanium, and TCR options. The temperature control with the AS chip is proven stable and reliable. This chip has a track record in TC mode, and that track record is very good. It is not at the level of a DNA, but it is certainly very, very good.

The 2200 mAh internal battery is not a large capacity. Especially if you are vaping at 70 watts or above. But, there is a compensating factor. I am talking about the 2 amp charging. That means that the battery charges fast. It really does. The battery can go from drained to 80$ charge in 30 minutes. A full charge takes under an hour. Moreover, you can vape while the battery is charging. The fact that the battery charges so fast gets an A+. Probably the fastest charging built in battery mod I have ever tested.

Geekvape Aegis Mini Specs

This is the part of the Geekvape Aegis Mini review where we cover the specs. One thing I want to mentions before getting to the numbers is to make a quick comment on the feel. The mod is made of strong alloys and the mod itself is coated. Including a padded back side that is truly comfortable and secure to hold. Stuff like that doesn't show up in the numbers so, I said my piece. Here's the Aegis Mini vape mod by numbers:

  • The Geekvape Aegis Mini is 78 mm tall
  • 78 mm is smaller than an 18650 mod
  • The Mini has a 27 mm diameter 510
  • Fires up to 80 watts
  • TC range is 200 F to 600 F
  • Temp control in SS, Ti, Ni200
  • 2200 mAh internal battery
  • 2 amp charging
  • IP 67 waterproof rating
  • Military grade 810G-516.6 shock proof
  • Dust proof
  • AS chipset with 9 ms atomizer firing
  • 10 second cut-off
  • Short circuit protection
  • Over current protection
  • Over charge protection
  • Anti dry fire protection in TC mode
  • Overheat protection

Geekvape Aegis Mini Battery Venting

The battery venting is achieved through a thin membrane. If the battery does overheat the gases will be expelled through the membrane and out the venting. If that does happen, the waterproof sealing will be broken but then again in the very remote chance of a battery failure the mod will be ruined anyway.

This is not something I worry about but as part of the Geekvape Aegis Mini review I just wanted to explain how this mod can be rated waterproof while simultaneously having proper emergency battery venting as a safety feature.

Using The Aegis Mini

Click the fire button five times to turn the Aegis Mini mod on and off. The up and down buttons adjust the wattage in 0.1 increments. If you hold the button it will start to scroll faster in 1.0 watt increments.

Click the fire button three times to access the menu. Be aware that bringing up the menu does not bring up a different screen. Instead, the vaping mode is shown above the wattage reading on the screen. From there, the user will use the up and down buttons to scroll through the options.

  • Variable wattage
  • Temp control in Ni, Ti, SS, TCR
  • Bypass
  • Power Curve

I love the power curve feature and it is so easy to set on the Aegis Mini. Just select power curve, then use the up and down buttons to set the power output for five seconds of fire time.

There are a few menu shortcuts. For example if you hold the fire button and the up or down button at the same time, you can adjust screen brightness. During the course of testing for the Geekvape Aegis Mini review, this particular feature was useful. Especially when vaping outside and adjusting the screen visibility in sunlight.

Geekvape Aegis Mini Review Ratings

Build Quality - 9.4/10

The Aegis Mini can take a pounding. Don't try this stuff at home!

You cannot beat the build quality of the Geekvape Aegis mini. That also goes for its predecessors, both the original Aegis and the Legend. Obviously, the quality, strength, and durability are second to none. But more than that, the 510 is phenomenal. The 27 mm diameter 510 with spring loaded center pin is outstanding.

The other aspect of build quality that we need to mention are the screen and buttons. The display screen is good. The display screen is not as fancy as some of the other mods but it more than gets the job done. The buttons are truly excellent. The click firmly and are durable. The fire button is nicely located.

AS Chipset - 8.5/10

We know a lot about the AS chipset as it has firmly established itself as one of the best. The super fast firing time and stability are known commodities. We are confident is the reliability of the AS chip. It has earned the respect of vapers.

In addition, another plus for the chipset is the menu system, which is easy to access and navigate. To lock in the settings just push the up and down buttons at the same time. When you see the little padlock pop up on the screen, the settings are locked. Use the same process to unlock.

I recommend locking the settings when you have them where you want them. That way you don't accidentally change them when vaping.

Aegis Mini Ease of Use / Comfort - 8.6/10

During the course of the Geekvape Aegis Mini review, the comfort and handling stood out. The classic feel of the Aegis in a smaller package. The foam grip is firm and kind of cozy actually! The fact that it is smaller than other mods adds to comfort and portability.

I am not stating a preference for mods with built in batteries vs. mods with separate batteries, but it is fair to say that a built in battery adds to ease of use. The user does not have to worry about swapping out batteries.

Finally, full credit to Geekvape and the AS chip for the easy to use menu system. This mod is capable of sophisticated vaping functions and makes it easy to enjoy your preferred vaping style.

Battery Life - 8.7/10

If a mod offers an efficient battery life that provides significant vaping time before you have to recharge, I normally give an 8.5. I gave two bonus points here because of the super fast recharge time. Also because of the fact that the user can vape while the device is charging.

The 2200 mAh capacity is about the same capacity as a typical 18650 battery. I find that the ideal vaping range for a 2200 mAh battery is about 40 to 60 watts. If you vape super low resistance coils at higher wattages, then the Mini may not be for you. For practical day to day vaping however, the Aegis Mini gets the job done.

Final Geekvape Aegis Mini Review Rating - 8.8/10

Geekvape Aegis Mini Mod Kit

The Geekvape Aegis Mini mod kit comes with the Cerberus vape tank with mesh coils. Vapers will be able to buy the mod alone, but the complete kit will be very popular and may be the better option. When you buy the kit for about $70, you get a matching vape tank. So it is a good value to get the kit.

Update: Since we first completed the Aegis Mini review, the price has gone down to about $55. Better deal than ever!

The Cerberus tank that comes with the kit also comes with coils designed for this mod. By that I mean that Geekvape has designed these specific Cerberus 0.3 ohm Mesh coils to vape best in the 30 to 40 watt range. Vaping at 40 watts is perfect for a mod with a 2200 mAh battery.

Geekvape Cerberus Vape Tank

The Geekvape Cerberus tank will hold 5.5 ml of vape juice with the bubble tank and 4.0 mls with the straight glass tank. The tank has adjustable airflow and a top fill design. To open the top fill port, a quarter turn will remove the cap. The tank has an 810 drip tip.

  •  25 mm diameter
  • With the Aegis Mini kit, the tank is color matched to the mod
  • Stainless steel construction
  • 0.3 ohm X1 mesh coil is rated for 30 watts to 45 watts
  • 0.2 ohm X2 mesh coil is rated for 60 to 80 watts (65-70 recommended)
  • Threaded top fill
  • 810 drip tip

I would recommend getting the full kit with the Cerberus tank. The mesh coils that are rated for 45 watts are ideal for the Aegis Mini. Some of the other vape tanks and coils out there might not be the best fit for the Aegis Mini because it tops out at 80 watts. And if you vape at 80 watts regularly, that will wear down the battery quickly.

Vaping the Aegis Mini in the 40 to 60 watt range is the ideal. If that suits your vaping style, then by all means you should consider this mod. The flavor and vapor from the Cerberus is awesome. Especially when vaping the best tasting vape juice, which as you know is Freeman Vape Juice!

Geekvape Aegis Mini Kit Review Summary

geekvape aegis mini kit with cerberus tank with 5.5 ml vape juice capacity

Time for the Geekvape Aegis Mini kit review summary! There is no question that the Aegis Mini is an exceptional mod. It is beautiful, feels great in the hand, and it vapes wonderfully. Truly, I love this mod. In this case the question is not whether or not this kit is worth the money, it definitely is. The real question is whether or not this is the right mod for you.

The Aegis Mini is simple, and easy to use. It is not a cloud chaser! It may not be the best choice for the hardcore hobbyist. But it is fantastic for day to day vaping. Especially if you work in a physically demanding job or work outdoors. The Cerberus tank with the X2 coils are a perfect match.
